Evolution...

Griffin took his first steps this past Sunday. Steph and I were both fortunate enough to be present and to witness the event. I have yet to get him to repeat the event, but Steph claims he has taken a couple of more infrequent paces over the past couple of days. He walks a bit like an orangutan waving his hands side to side above his head. Its pretty funny to watch.

He is evolving in more ways than just physical coordination. Generally speaking we keep him in his "pen" which is our living room. The couches are situated such that there is only a walkway opening to enter and exit the room. We have dubiously employed the ottoman as a barrier of sorts to keep him imprisoned.

The "PEN"

Up until Monday this system may well have been Alcatraz.

Monday morning however, the door to his cell (ottoman) was left slightly open and the midget defied the laws of physics to squeeze thru the opening. He was discovered racing to freedom by one of the guards (Steph), detained, and returned to the Rock.

On Tuesday he made another escape attempt, this time thru the visitor’s entrance that the cats use.

"Visitors Entrance"

He has attempted this route previously and ended up wedged between the wall and the couch. Fortunately the jaws of life were not necessary to extract him from his predicament. In response to these attempts we strategically located his toy bin in front of the opening. Tuesday, he removed the obstruction and wriggled his way thru the void. He was again recovered and detained by my wife, but the triumphant look on his face said it all.

You could tell he is already devising a grand scheme to defeat our formerly air tight system. It wouldn’t surprise me to come home and find a hole in the living room floor, Griffin no where to be found.

Below are some recent pictures of our escape artist. If you see him out and about, please notify the authorities. Make no attempt to capture him on your own. He very well may be carrying a loaded diaper.

Griffin's 1st Red's Game

Griffin and the fam went to the Red's game on May 17 for the Mother's day game. The Red's won !! Yippee. Votto and Dunn both hit homeruns and Griffin enjoyed the fireworks. He seemed to enjoy the game too, it run's in the blood. He even took a 7th inning stretch with Dad and came back fast asleep!

True Fan...He even wore a red and white sock on his booboo!
We are ready to go cheer!
I want some of that popcorn and cracker jacks!
Go Griffey! We sat right next to him out in the field. I think he even waved to Griffin...he must have known they shared nicknames..."Grif"

Swimmin' with the Dolphins

Griffin was really excited to go swimming in his dolphin pool for the first time! Thank you Uncle Ron, Auntie Cris, Emily and Megan for the cute pool. He loves it. He splished and splashed until he was all prunes. Then he went down for a nice long afternoon nap.
Who needs a rock solid body to look cute?
My Ralf Lauren trunks from Emily, my nanny!
Gone Fishin'... I already caught more than Grandpa!!
Bye, bye...I am pooped from swimming!
All dried off and cute as a bunny!

8 Months

So, the little guy isn't so little anymore. He's 8 months old as of this past Tuesday. He still isn't crawling yet, but he pulled himself up on the ottoman and was standing the other day. I'm thinking we might skip the whole crawling thing and go straight to walking around. So far, he log-rolls and scoots backwards to get where he wants to go. The problem with moving backwards is that he can't really see where he's going, so he backs into some akward positions and gets stuck. Thus far, screaming about it is the best solution he has come up with.
He is also eating baby food on a pretty regular basis. Bananas and sweet potatoes are his favorites. We've also tried the little puff cereal things. He's not so sure about them yet.
Enough with the general commentary, here is a picture journal of what he's been doing for the past couple of months....

Growin like a weed

Well, Griffin is growing like a weed . He is 5 months old now and is wearing 6-9 months clothes. He has two teeth (since his 4 month checkup), is rolling over like a champ and had his first taste of rice cereal over the weekend. He is a very happy baby and has been sleeping thru the night pretty consistently since christmas. He gave us 11 hours straight thru last Saturday night. Here are some pics of the munchkin.
